Selenium (also known as selenium) is an essential trace element. It occurs in animal and plant products in both organic forms (selenomethionine or selenocysteine) and inorganic forms (selenite or selenate). The organic forms are absorbed by the body one and a half to two times better than the inorganic forms. Low selenium intake is common in the Netherlands, especially among vegetarians. This product contains 200 mcg of selenium in the form of L-selenomethionine, which in its L-form is a suitable source of the trace element selenium.How selenium works in the body
Selenium is an important antioxidant. Certain enzymes (selenoenzymes), such as glutathione peroxidase (GPx), depend on selenium and play a key role in scavenging free radicals. Selenium is also necessary for normal thyroid function because it is involved in regulating thyroid hormones.
