Lactoferrin is a naturally occurring protein that binds and transports iron. We ingest a large amount of lactoferrin after birth through breast milk. Although our bodies produce lactoferrin naturally, factors like processed foods and stress can negatively impact lactoferrin reserves.The body can produce lactoferrin in limited quantities. We can stimulate this production by exercising on an empty stomach, preferably strength training with our arms. However, the Western diet is highly processed. This diet, along with (chronic) exposure to stress and toxins, can negatively impact lactoferrin reserves. Daily supplementation with a high-dose lactoferrin supplement (500 mg per capsule) can prevent a deficiency.
