The liver is an essential organ of the human body and plays a crucial role in health. It assists in the assimilation of food, the detoxification of the blood, the synthesis of proteins, and the storage of energy.A number of symptoms occur with a liver problem, such as the production of dark urine, discolored stools, lack of appetite, and yellowing of the whites of the eyes or the skin (jaundice). Other symptoms may include abdominal swelling, a feeling of weakness, or extreme fatigue. There can be various causes for these liver conditions, including hepatitis, side effects of certain medications, cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse, and obesity, especially in cases of diabetes or high blood pressure.
Various diagnostic tests regarding liver function can be performed, but the most commonly used tests involve measuring the activity of transaminase enzymes (ALT and AST). These enzymes are released into the blood by the liver in the event of dysfunction or the development of disease.
LIVER-Screen® is a rapid immunodiagnostic test used to detect an increase in transaminase (ALT and AST) activity from a capillary blood sample obtained from the fingertip. The test is supplied in the form of a cassette containing a strip with two distinct zones for the detection of transaminases (red if positive) and a control zone (blue).
What is this medicine used for:
Rapid self-test for determining the physiological state of the liver in blood.
Usage of Swiss Point of Care Zelftest Liver-Screen:
The box contains all the material needed to perform a test:- 1 sealed aluminium pouch containing: 1 test cassette, 2 plastic capillary pipettes and 1 sachet of desiccant.
- 2 sterile lancets for blood collection
- 1 dropper bottle with 1 mL of diluent
- 1 package leaflet
Only open the aluminium pouch when you are ready to use the test. The desiccant pouch must not be used.
Necessary materials not included: absorbent cotton and 70% vol. alcohol or an alcohol wipe and stopwatch.
Instructions for use
1. Prepare the test device, the pipette, and the dropper bottle with diluent. Remove them from the protective pouch (tear at the notch. Remove the screw cap from the diluent dropper bottle and keep it nearby).
2. Clean the tip of the middle or ring finger with cotton moistened with alcohol. Press the lancet firmly against the side of the previously cleaned finger and press the release button.
3. Bring the plastic pipette into contact with the blood sample without pressing on the bulb. The whole blood migrates into the pipette by capillary action to the line indicated on the pipette.
4. Dispense the blood into the sample opening of the cassette by pressing the bulb of the pipette down. Wait 30-40 seconds for the blood to be absorbed. Unscrew the blue cap from the dropper bottle and keep the white cap in place. Add 4 drops of diluent to the well, with an interval of 2-3 seconds. Read the result after 10 minutes. Do not interpret after 15 minutes.
