Application of Linn Xylometazoline Menthol 1 mg Neusspray:
You use Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml when you suffer from a blocked nose.Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml provides fast and long-lasting relief from nasal congestion.
It reduces swelling of the mucous membrane in the nose and thus helps to keep the nasal passage clear, making it easier for you to breathe.
The effect of Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml starts within a few minutes and lasts for several hours.
Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml is well tolerated, even by patients with sensitive nasal mucous membranes.
Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml is intended for adults and children aged 12 and over.
This medicine is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
Do not use if
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine.
- If you have recently had a nose operation. Consult your doctor before using Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml.
- In children under 12 years of age.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if the above information applies to you, as Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml is not suitable for you.
Extra caution with
Contact your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you suffer from any of the following conditions:
- High blood pressure
- Heart and vascular diseases (e.g. long QT syndrome)
- Thyroid disease
- Diabetes
- Enlarged prostate
- Adrenal medulla tumor
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
If this applies to you, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml.
As with other similar products, Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml may cause sleep disturbances, dizziness and trembling in susceptible individuals. Consult your doctor if such symptoms become very bothersome.
As with other products that reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa, Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml should not be used continuously for long periods of time. Prolonged or excessive use may cause ‘rebound’ congestion (rebound: the return of the symptoms of the condition to an increased degree). If there is no improvement after a week, contact your doctor.
Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth.
You should not exceed the recommended dose, especially for children and the elderly.
This product contains 0.1 mg benzalkonium chloride in each ml of solution. Benzalkonium chloride may cause irritation or swelling in the nose, especially with prolonged use.
Taking with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines in addition to Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml.
When taking medicines for depression, the effects of Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml may be increased. There is a chance of a change in the effect of beta blockers (a medicine for high blood pressure, certain heart conditions and increased eye pressure).
Taking during pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy
Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant.
Only use this medicine if your doctor has determined that it is safe for you to do so.
Breastfeeding
It is not known whether xylometazoline is excreted in breast milk. A risk to the infant cannot be excluded.
A decision must be made to interrupt breastfeeding or to refrain from xylometazoline therapy, taking into account the benefits of breastfeeding for the child and the benefit of the therapy for you.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Composition of Linn Xylometazoline Menthol 1 mg Neusspray:
Active ingredientsThe active substance in this medicine is xylometazoline hydrochloride.
Excipients
The other ingredients (excipients) in this medicine are benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate dihydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (E339), sodium chloride, levomenthol, cineole, macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate and purified water.
Usage of Linn Xylometazoline Menthol 1 mg Neusspray:
The recommended dosage for adults and children aged 12 and over is:1 spray in each nostril, 3 times a day. There should be an interval of 8 to 10 hours between 2 applications.
Do not use more than 3 applications per day.
Instructions for use
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
If you are unsure about the correct use, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Method of use
Blow your nose.
Remove the protective cap.
Before the first application, pump a few times until an even spray is produced. The nasal spray is now ready for use.
If you have not used the spray for 7 or more days, press the pump once to make the spray ready for use again.
If you have not used the spray for less than 7 days, the dosing spray is ready for use immediately.
Hold the nasal spray upright and tilt your head slightly forward.
Insert the nosepiece into the nostril and press the atomizer firmly once.
Then remove the nosepiece from the nostril before releasing the pressure. Administer 1 spray into each nostril.
While pumping, inhale through your nose.
After use, clean the tip and replace the cap.
To prevent a possible spread of the infection, the bottle may only be used by 1 person.
You may not use Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml continuously for more than one week.
If the symptoms have not disappeared after 1 week of use or even return, you should still consult your GP.
Your GP can then advise you further on the treatment of your condition.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
STOP taking Xylometazoline HCl Linn Menthol 1 mg/ml and seek immediate medical attention if you or your child experience any of the following symptoms, as these may be signs of an allergic reaction:
- Difficulty breathing and swallowing
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
- Severe itching, accompanied by a red rash and raised bumps (hives)
This medicine may also cause the following side effects:
Common (affects less than 1 in 10 people): headache, dry nose or nasal discomfort, nausea, burning sensation.
Uncommon (affects less than 1 in 100 people): nose bleed.
Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people): insomnia, dizziness, trembling, temporary visual disturbances, irregular and rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure.
The frequency, type and severity of side effects in children are expected to be similar to those in adults.
The majority of side effects reported in children occurred after overdose of xylometazoline.
