It contains ginger and artichoke, known for their positive effect on digestion in general and stomach function in particular. It is therefore ideal for people who need some extra support in this area. One of the ingredients in Digestive Formula Pro is Ginger and Artichoke Extract, branded Prodigest® by the Italian manufacturer and herbal specialist Indena. Ginger is a spice extracted from the rhizome of the ginger plant (Zingiber officinale). It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, which also includes Turmeric and Cardamom. Indena's ginger extract is standardized to 2.5% shogaols and gingerols. The artichoke extract in Prodigest® is derived from the leaf of the artichoke (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus). The active ingredients in this extract are flavonoids (1.4%), cynaropicrin (1.4%), and caffeoylquinic acid (5.6%).
Human research shows that this specific combination extract of ginger and artichoke is beneficial for digestion because it contributes to the maintenance of normal stomach function. It is best taken with a meal and can help with a feeling of fullness and bloating after eating. Artichoke also has a positive effect on liver function, partly by supporting bile production. The liver is involved in the digestion of fats by producing bile. Bile ensures that fats from our diet are emulsified (broken down into smaller globules) so that fat-splitting enzymes can work effectively on them.
