Lactoferrin is a multifunctional endogenous protein. In the name Lactoferrin, lacto refers to cow's milk, in which this protein was first identified. Ferrin stands for iron because Lactoferrin has the property of binding to and transporting iron. Lactoferrin is found in the mucous membranes, tear fluid, saliva, bile, pancreatic juices, urine, and mucus in the nasal cavity, airways, and gastrointestinal tract.As humans, we ingest large quantities of lactoferrin shortly after birth thanks to the consumption of colostrum and breast milk. Although our body produces lactoferrin itself, we never again ingest it in such high doses as at the start of our lives. In fact, a Western lifestyle with a diet containing a lot of highly processed food, high levels of (chronic) stress, and exposure to various (environmental) toxins and pathogens can negatively affect your own lactoferrin reserves.
Babies ingest two to three grams of lactoferrin through breast milk. The concentration of lactoferrin in colostrum (7 g/l) and in later breast milk (1-2 g/l) is enormous compared to the amounts we ingest from, for example, cow's milk products. These contain, on average, only 0.2 grams of lactoferrin. Fortunately, our body does produce it itself, albeit in very small amounts. We can stimulate this by exercising on an empty stomach, preferably strength training for the arm muscles.
Bonusan Lactoferrin contains only the best quality lactoferrin, purified from lipopolysaccharides (LPS). These are molecules found in the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria. It is of great importance that lactoferrin does not contain LPS. The presence of LPS has a negative influence on lactoferrin and can, moreover, undesirably activate the immune system. Bonusan Lactoferrin is guaranteed to be free of detectable levels of LPS. This is verified in a laboratory using LCMS (liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry).
Bonusan Lactoferrin 300 mg is a high-quality supplement for a broad target group. The protein is neutral and also safe for children. Lactoferrin can be used, for example, as a supplement to bottle feeding. In adults, lactoferrin is often used as a high-dose course, and this high dosage is perfectly tailored to that.
