Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an omega-6 fatty acid that is rarely found in food and is formed in the body from (cis)linoleic acid. This conversion often occurs only to a limited extent, resulting in the formation of fewer (beneficial) eicosanoids (local hormone-like substances).Factors that can play a role in this include excessive consumption of trans fatty acids, saturated fats, sugar, alcohol, and carbohydrates, and a deficiency of essential nutrients involved in this conversion (magnesium, vitamin B6, niacin, zinc, magnesium, selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E). Not everyone produces the enzyme delta-6-desaturase, which converts linoleic acid into GLA, in the same amounts. The enzyme is present in lower levels in older adults, for example.
GLA supports the health of skin, blood vessels, joints and bones, promotes a normal and regular female cycle, is good for nerve tissue, promotes normal cell division and is beneficial for mental balance.
GLA is also beneficial for maintaining normal blood pressure and healthy cholesterol levels, and it supports the immune system. Evening primrose oil and borage oil are two good sources of gamma-linolenic acid.

of which Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) 45 mg
