This multi is based on our Super Multivitamin for Adults , but now more focused on the changed micronutrient needs during pregnancy. For example, the amounts of Iodine, Zinc, Chromium, Vitamin D3, and Folic Acid have been adjusted.Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and—like selenium—to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. Iodine also contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels. Zinc contributes to the normal metabolism of carbohydrates and fatty acids, normal protein synthesis, normal DNA synthesis, and normal fertility and reproduction. Like Vitamin D3, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12, Zinc also plays a role in the cell division process. Vitamins C and E, Zinc, and Selenium contribute to the protection of cells against oxidative stress.
This multi contains biologically bound, highly absorbable minerals and vitamins in their co-enzyme form, such as methyltetrahydrofolate (active co-enzyme form of Vitamin Folic Acid) and Dibencoside and Methylcobalamin (both active co-enzyme forms of Vitamin B12). To prevent oxidative stress, the iron content has been kept relatively low. No herbs or organ extracts have been added to this multi.
