The lozenges now also contain 200 mcg active folate. Because the liver does not need to convert them, active forms are absorbed more quickly by the body.

The normal absorption process of vitamin B12 requires sufficient stomach acid and intrinsic factor. The lozenge bypasses this absorption process, and the vitamin is absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the oral mucosa.
The vitamin B12 that our body can use is found exclusively in foods of animal origin, such as liver, poultry, eggs, milk, tuna, herring, and mackerel. A purely plant-based diet therefore does not provide easily absorbable vitamin B12. All the more reason for vegetarians and vegans to use this supplement.
