You can use the gum as soon as the urge for a cigarette strikes. Chewing the gum helps support the body in managing the addiction and alleviates withdrawal symptoms.Chew the gum for about 10 seconds. Then hold the gum between your gum and cheek for a minute. Then chew for another 10 seconds. We recommend repeating this every half hour. This allows for a gradual release of nicotine.
You only notice the effects of nicotine after a few minutes; therefore, you shouldn't expect the instant gratification that comes with smoking. Avoid consuming acidic beverages like coffee or soft drinks for 15 minutes before and during chewing. These beverages interfere with nicotine absorption in the oral cavity.
Slow chewing promotes optimal absorption of nicotine through the oral mucosa.
Swallowing of saliva should therefore be kept to a minimum.
Nicorette 2 mg should not be used if you:
- are hypersensitive to nicotine or one of the excipients
- has a serious heart condition (a recent heart attack; heart rhythm disturbances; tight, painful feeling in the chest (angina pectoris); or a so-called Prinzmetal angina)
- has recently had a brain hemorrhage (stroke)
- has an inflammation in the mouth, throat or esophagus
