Iron is a mineral that the body cannot produce itself and must therefore be obtained through food or supplements. However, iron is a stubborn mineral: your body actually absorbs only a fraction of what you ingest through food or supplements, and exactly how much that is depends heavily on what else is on your plate. Vitamin C is known as an enhancer of iron absorption from food. Phytates (from grains and legumes), tannins (from tea and coffee), and calcium, on the other hand, are seen as inhibitors: they can reduce the absorption of iron from the same meal. Therefore, iron supplements are often advised to be taken separately from coffee, tea, or calcium-rich products.And that makes the choice of an iron form, and the way in which it is processed, relevant: not every iron compound interacts with these inhibitors in the same way, and not every form is tolerated equally well.
Iron bisglycinate is an iron molecule bonded to two glycine molecules. This forms a chelate, which is often described as better tolerated than simple, uncoated iron salts.
At Kala Health, we use the widely researched iron sulfate compound, but we aim to prevent gastrointestinal upset as much as possible. Therefore, we encapsulate our iron sulfate in phospholipid liposomes: a layer intended to shield the iron from the gastrointestinal tract until it is expected to be absorbed intact, thereby limiting interaction with dietary inhibitors such as calcium and tannins.

Usage of Kala Health Liposomaal IJzersulfaat:
You take 1 capsule per day, unless otherwise advised by a healthcare professional.Preferably take 30-60 minutes before breakfast with coffee/tea and plenty of water.
Iron absorption is inhibited by calcium (yogurt, milk) and tannins (coffee, tea). Liposomal encapsulation helps reduce this interaction, but it is still preferable to take this capsule separately from these products.
