Flaxseed oil offers an excellent alternative to fish oil. As much as 60% of the weight of the oil extracted from the flaxseed consists of Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA), and therefore contains almost twice as many Omega 3 fatty acids per gram of weight as fish oil.Alpha-linolenic acid forms the basis of the group of polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. Alpha-linolenic acid can be converted by the body into longer fatty acid chains, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Alpha-linolenic acid is an essential fatty acid and must be consumed in relatively large amounts through the diet. However, because it is highly unstable, it is not always possible to be certain how much has actually been ingested through the diet.
Lamberts' flaxseed oil is cold-pressed to ensure that its nutritional quality is preserved. Furthermore, flaxseed oil is a valuable source of linoleic acid (LA), another important essential fatty acid that must be present in our diet.
