Astaxanthin is a red pigment produced by the small alga Haematococcus pluvialis. Scientists believe that thanks to the protective effect of astaxanthin, this alga can survive for decades without food and water. When the alga is exposed to harmful UV light (sunlight), it produces astaxanthin as a natural protection to survive.The astaxanthin used in Kala Health's astaxanthin formula is from a renowned brand known as NatAxtin® and is produced at a Chilean biotechnology company.
Astaxanthin is produced in the Atacama Desert, which is known worldwide for its pristine nature. Furthermore, the desert's location is far from agriculture or populated areas, making cultivation safe and free from environmental pollution. The algae is grown in (purified) spring water from the surrounding Andes Mountains and bathes in enormous amounts of sunlight.
After harvesting, the algae are carefully vacuum-dried at a low temperature and ground. The so-called 'Astaxanthin-rich oleoresin' is extracted from this powder. The Astaxanthin-rich oleoresin is used in the Astaxanthin formula of Kala Health.
The careful production process ensures that the nutrients are characterized by very high bioavailability and are completely free of unnecessary solvents.
