Product information for Swiss Point of Care Zelftest Tik Alert:

Application of Swiss Point of Care Zelftest Tik Alert:

Ticks, insects found in scrubland and temperate forests, can carry the Borrelia bacterium, which can be transmitted to humans (risk of 1 to 2%) through bites on unprotected areas such as the arms or legs. Borrelia affects the nervous system, which can lead to serious neurological disorders. European Borrelia strains, including B. afzelli, B. garinii, B. burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. spielmanii, and B. bavariensis, are pathogenic, while B. valaisiana and B. lusitaniae are potentially pathogenic and cause skin lesions and arthritis.

Inflammation and erythema may occur within 3 to 10 days after a tick bite, accompanied by fever. In the event of infection, the immune system produces IgM antibodies, which are detectable 2 to 6 weeks after infection. Lyme disease progresses in three stages: IgM antibodies appear in 40 to 60% during stage I (2 to 4 weeks), 70 to 90% during stage II (4 to 6 weeks), and are generally present in stage III. The TIK'ALERT® test can detect specific IgM antibodies, indicating a recent Borrelia infection. Antibiotic therapy can treat infections, but the test cannot determine the stage of the disease with positive results.

What is this medicine used for:
Rapid self-test for early detection of anti-Borrellia IgM antibodies from infected tick bites in blood (Lyme disease)

Usage of Swiss Point of Care Zelftest Tik Alert:

1. Prepare the test device, the pipette, and the dropper bottle with diluent. Remove them from the protective pouch (tear at the notch. Remove the screw cap from the diluent dropper bottle and keep it nearby).

2. Clean the tip of the middle or ring finger with cotton moistened with alcohol. Press the lancet firmly against the side of the previously cleaned finger and press the release button.

3. Bring the plastic pipette into contact with the blood sample without pressing on the bulb. The whole blood migrates into the pipette by capillary action to the line indicated on the pipette.

4. Dispense the blood into the sample opening of the cassette by pressing the pipette. Wait 30-40 seconds for the blood to be absorbed. Unscrew the blue cap from the dropper bottle and keep the white cap in place. Add 4 drops of diluent to the well, with an interval of 2-3 seconds. Read the result after 10 minutes. Do not interpret after 15 minutes.
