What is Murumuru Butter?Murumuru butter is extracted from the seeds of the Astrocaryum murumuru palm, a tree native to the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. The name "murumuru" comes from the language of the Ashaninka Indians, who have used this plant-based butter for skin and hair care for centuries. The seeds are cold-pressed by the local population, which preserves their high fatty acid and vitamin content.
Murumuru butter has a neutral to slightly nutty scent that dissipates quickly after application. This makes the butter suitable for blending with essential oils.
Why is Murumuru Butter better than coconut oil?
Like coconut oil, murumuru butter contains a high percentage of lauric acid (46-52%), but offers even more benefits. It's lighter, absorbs more quickly, and doesn't leave a greasy residue. Its higher melting point of 33°C (compared to 22.7°C for coconut oil) makes the texture more stable and the butter oxidizes less quickly.
Choose Murumuru Butter if you want a light texture that absorbs quickly, have fine hair that gets oily easily, or have combination to oily skin. Choose coconut oil if you have dry hair or very dry skin and the heavier texture isn't a problem.
Important ingredients and effects of Murumuru butter
Lauric acid (46-52%) and myristic acid (26%) are medium-chain fatty acids that penetrate deep into the skin and hair. They restore the natural moisture barrier.
✓?-Sitosterol is a plant sterol that protects the skin from drying out, just as the palm protects itself in the heat of Brazil.
Vitamin A stimulates collagen production and has a beneficial effect on pigmentation and age spots. It helps reduce fine lines.
✓Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin against free radicals caused by pollution and UV radiation.
Usage of Chi Murumuru Butter Biologisch:
Use on skin:Warm a few drops of murumuru butter between your palms until it melts, then gently massage into clean, damp skin.
For a nourishing massage oil, melt the murumuru butter in a bain-marie, add 10-15 drops of essential oil, and let it cool until it solidifies again.
Use in hair:
Warm the butter between your palms until it melts, apply it to dry hair, and leave it on for 30-60 minutes. For intense hydration, use it as an overnight hair mask: melt the butter, work it through your hair, and rinse it out the next morning with a mild shampoo.
Shelf life of Murumuru Butter
The shelf life of murumuru butter is approximately one year when stored properly. Store the butter in a cool place (preferably below 25°C), out of direct sunlight, and in a tightly sealed container.
Please note: At temperatures above 36°C murumuru butter becomes liquid, but it will solidify again upon cooling without affecting its effectiveness.
