Application of Sandoz Loperamide HCl 2 mg:
Loperamide HCl Sandoz contains loperamide hydrochloride. This is a substance that reduces excessive bowel movements. This substance is responsible for the antidiarrheal effect. Loperamide HCl works only where it's needed, namely in the intestine. Loperamide HCl usually stops diarrhea within a few hours.What is this medicine used for
This medicine is used against acute or chronic diarrhea in adults and children aged 8 years and older. Acute
Diarrhea begins suddenly and usually clears up within a week. Chronic diarrhea lasts for a long time. This medication is used to treat the diarrhea itself.
Composition of Sandoz Loperamide HCl 2 mg:
Active substance: 1 capsule Loperamide HCI Sandoz 2 mg contains 2 mg loperamide hydrochlorideExcipients: lactose monohydrate, maize starch, talc (E553b), magnesium stearate (E470b), gelatin, Patent Blue V (E131), black iron oxide (E172), yellow iron oxide (E172) and titanium dioxide (E171).
Use of Sandoz Loperamide HCl 2 mg:
Adults:In case of acute (sudden) diarrhea
Start with 2 capsules (4 mg). Then take 1 capsule (2 mg) after each subsequent loose stool. Never take more than 8 capsules (16 mg) in one day.
In case of chronic (long-term) diarrhea
Start with 2 capsules (4 mg) per day. This dose will need to be adjusted until you have one to two solid stools per day. This is usually achieved with 1 to 6 capsules (2 to 12 mg) per day. You should never take more than 8 capsules (16 mg) in one day.
Children aged 8 and over
In case of acute (sudden) diarrhea
Start with 1 capsule (2 mg). Then take (or give) 1 capsule (2 mg) after each subsequent loose bowel movement for as long as the diarrhea lasts. The number of capsules a child can take in one day depends on the child's body weight. See the table below. For children, it is also important to ensure that no more than 8 capsules are administered per day.

Do not use in
• You are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
You can recognize hypersensitivity symptoms as a rash, itching, shortness of breath, or a swollen face. If you experience these symptoms, stop taking this medication and consult your doctor.
• You should never give this medicine to children under 2 years of age.
• The capsules are not suitable for children under 8 years of age.
• Do not use this medicine if you think the cause of your diarrhoea could be poisoning, for example with a heavy metal (such as mercury, lead or cadmium).
• You should not use this medicine if you have 'megacolon'. This is a severely dilated colon; a serious condition that can occur in patients with Hirschsprung's disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, recognisable by a very painful bloated abdomen, fever and an increased heart rate.
• Do not use this medicine if you actually have a blockage in your bowels, which causes some watery stools to 'leak' through. This occurs with certain bowel conditions.
• Do not use this medicine if you have persistent abdominal pain, a high fever, and/or if your stools contain mucus and/or blood. These symptoms may be caused by food poisoning or an infection or inflammation of the colon.
• Do not use this medicine if you have a bacterial inflammation of the large and/or small intestine caused by invasive organisms including Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter.
• Do not use this medicine if you have severe bowel inflammation (e.g. ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis resulting from the use of certain antibiotics).
• Do not use this medicine in any case where normal bowel movements are not permitted.
