Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum) is a robust, thistle-like plant belonging to the honeysuckle family. The plant has a sturdy, upright stem with large, rough leaves and characteristic spiny flower heads. Teasel is often found in the wild, for example along roads, on fallow land, and other rough places where it thrives.Teasel has a long history of use. In earlier times, the dried flower heads were used for carding wool—the process by which wool fibers were cleaned and loosened. Additionally, the plant was also used for its natural properties, for which extracts were prepared from various plant parts.
Nowadays, Teasel is primarily processed into tinctures: liquid extracts in which the active substances from the root (and sometimes the leaves) in particular are dissolved. These tinctures are prepared using a mixture of water and alcohol, ensuring that the valuable components of the plant are optimally preserved.
