Do you suspect your dog, cat, or horse has come into contact with the stinging hairs of the oak processionary caterpillar? Use PUUR Bombyx after contact and if you react to the stinging hairs of the oak processionary caterpillar. It can also be used topically.During the summer months, many oak trees are full of them: oak processionary caterpillars. The Latin name for this caterpillar is Bombyx processionea. Do you enjoy walking your dog in the woods, does your cat spend a lot of time outdoors, or does your horse live in an area with many oak trees? Then there's a chance they'll come into contact with the microscopic hairs of the oak processionary caterpillar. When these come into contact with skin or mucous membranes, it can cause an unpleasant reaction.
Prevention is therefore better than cure. Adjust your walking route when the caterpillar is active there and avoid areas with high pest pressure and many oak trees as much as possible. Are there oak trees with oak processionary nests in or next to your horse's pasture? Contact the municipality (if they are located outside your own land) or have a gardener come (if they are on your own land) to remove the nests.
What to do after contact with oak processionary caterpillars?
Has your pet come into contact with the stinging hairs of the oak processionary caterpillar? Rinse your pet with lukewarm water, or wipe its coat with a damp cloth or washcloth, and roll over the coat with a lint roller to remove as many stinging hairs as possible. Be careful not to rub the stinging hairs into the coat. Contact your veterinarian if your dog, cat, or horse appears ill or, for example, experiences breathing problems as a result of contact with the stinging hairs.
In addition, use PUUR Bombyx immediately after contact with stinging hairs. Give a high dose for the first hour and a half: 5 drops every half hour, for a total of 15 drops. Then give 5 drops twice a day until the reaction disappears. Administer the drops to clean oral mucosa. Ideally, administer directly into the mouth at least half an hour before or after meals for optimal absorption.
Externally, you can locally soften the skin by applying drops of PURE Bombyx, or use, for example:
