Usage of Braun Digitale Thermometer PRT1000:
Use under the armpitThis method is used for babies and young children.
1. Rub the armpit dry with a dry towel.
2. Place the probe tip under the arm so that the end makes contact with the skin, and place the patient's arm next to his/her body.
With a small child, it is sometimes helpful to hold the child against you so that his or her arm remains beside the body. This prevents the room temperature from influencing the measurement.
3. When the peak temperature is reached, beeping sounds will be heard. The temperature is now confirmed. When the thermometer is removed from the measurement site, the corresponding color is displayed.
4. Switch off the thermometer and clean it as indicated further down.
Oral use
This method is suitable for children who are old enough to safely hold the thermometer in their mouth.
1. It is important that you place the tip of the thermometer properly under the tongue, either on the left or right, to obtain a good, accurate reading. Place the sensor tip on one of the marked spots under the tongue. Keep the patient's mouth closed and have him/her sit still to ensure an accurate measurement.
2. When the peak temperature is reached, beeping sounds will be heard. The temperature is now confirmed. When the thermometer is removed from the dining area, the corresponding color is displayed.
3. Switch off the thermometer and clean it as indicated further down.
Rectal use
It is often used for babies and young children, or when measuring in the mouth or under the armpit is difficult.
1. Apply a little water-soluble lubricant to the tip of the thermometer to make insertion easier. Do not use Vaseline. Read the lubricant label to ensure you are using the correct type.
2. Lay the patient on his/her side. The correct position for babies is prone, with the legs hanging down. You can place the baby across your knees, on the edge of a bed, or on a changing table. In this position, the thermometer can be safely and easily inserted into the rectum.
3. Carefully insert the tip of the thermometer a MAXIMUM of 1.3 cm into the rectum. Stop if you feel resistance. Hold the thermometer in place during the measurement.
4. When the peak temperature is reached, beeping sounds will be heard. The temperature is now confirmed. When the thermometer is removed from the dining area, the corresponding color is displayed.
5. Switch off the thermometer and clean it as indicated further down.
