The average fiber consumption in the Netherlands is 20 grams per day, while the Netherlands Nutrition Centre advises consuming about 30 to 40 grams of dietary fiber per day.Mattisson Organic Fiber Complex capsules are composed of Agave Inulin and Psyllium fibers. Within the group of fibers, there are two variants: soluble and insoluble fibers. The Agave Inulin in this product is a soluble fiber, and the Psyllium is an insoluble fiber.
What is Agave Inulin?
Agave Tequilana (also known as the 'blue agave') is an agave with blue-gray leaves. The “blue” agave cactus grows at an altitude of 1,500 meters in Mexico. It takes 6-7 years for the plant to mature and be ready for harvesting. Agave inulin is virtually tasteless and colorless and gives food a creamy texture.
These soluble fibers reach the large intestine undigested, where they are broken down by bacteria through fermentation into short-chain fatty acids (acetate, butyrate, and propionate). These fatty acids serve as an energy source for the intestinal epithelium, among other things. Fermentable fibers include fibers from vegetables, fruits, potatoes, legumes, and, of course, the inulin in this product.
What is Psyllium?
Psyllium consists of the seed husks of plant seeds and is composed of more than 80% fiber. Like oatmeal and whole-grain products, psyllium fibers belong to the category of insoluble and non-fermentable fibers: they are not absorbed by the body but do contribute to digestion.
