Turmeric is the deep yellow coloured rhizome of the herbaceous turmeric plant ‘Curcuma longa’. The yellow pigments from turmeric, known as curcuminoids, are its main ingredients.The knowledge about the healthy effects of turmeric, once based on Indian folk wisdom some 5,000 years ago, is now based on over 150 years of scientific research. At a concentration of 95% curcuminoids, turmeric has been best studied.
Difference between organic Turmeric and Turmeric spice
The Turmeric you use as a spice in cooking contains about 3% curcuminoids. If you heat your dish, half of the curcuminoids will be lost, as these pigments do not withstand heat well. Cressana Curcuma Organic contains as much as 95% curcuminoids. A big difference! To get the physiologically active dose of 500 mg of curcuminoids, you would have to add 20 tablespoons of turmeric spice to 1 person's hot meal every day.
