Folic acid is a B vitamin that is particularly recommended during or before pregnancy. Nevertheless, folic acid is a versatile nutrient with a much broader application than just supporting the pregnant woman. Folate is the biologically active form of folic acid
Folic acid is the synthetic form of vitamin B11. Folate is the so-called bioavailable or active form of folic acid and is therefore much more easily absorbed. Before our body can absorb folic acid, it must go through two conversion processes: first from folic acid to dihydrofolate (DHF), then to tetrahydrofolate (THF), and only then to become folate (5-MTHF). When you ingest folate in a supplement, it is therefore immediately available to our body and consequently much more effective!
