Once absorbed into the body, vitamin C is converted into certain metabolites (intermediate or end products). The most important metabolite appears to be threonic acid. Ester-C® is a patented vitamin C formula consisting of calcium ascorbate that has already been partially converted, resulting in the presence of certain natural metabolites, including threonic acid. Threonic acid and the other vitamin C metabolites promote the absorption and utilization of vitamin C in the body. Furthermore, threonic acid appears to be able to mobilize vitamin C already stored in the body.Research has shown the following advantages of Ester-C® over ascorbic acid:
