One of lactoferrin's biological activities comes from its potent iron-binding capacity (300 times that of serum transferrin), which promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria.In addition, digestion of lactoferrin by gastric pepsin releases the immune-supporting peptide lactoferricin B.
