All Vitals products containing vitamin B6 contain only pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P5P), the biologically active form of vitamin B6, and not pyridoxine HCL, which must be converted in the body. Vitamin B6 in its biologically active form, pyridoxal-5'-phosphate, acts as a cofactor in over 140 enzyme reactions in the body and therefore has a wide range of physiological functions.Thus, almost all amino acids require one or more enzymes dependent on pyridoxal-5'-phosphate for their metabolism. P5P-dependent enzymes also play a role in glycogen metabolism. In this way, vitamin B6 contributes to a good energy supply and can help with fatigue.
Pyridoxal-5'-phosphate is also involved in the production of heme compounds and hemoglobin, and helps bind oxygen to and release from red blood cells. Heme compounds are also found in the mitochondria, which also explains pyridoxal-5'-phosphate's contribution to energy levels. Because pyridoxal-5'-phosphate is also absorbed by the brain and P5P-dependent enzymes play a role in the production of neurotransmitters, it also contributes to normal brain and nerve function.
