Curcumin is one of the most well-known and widely used herbal preparations. It is the main active ingredient in turmeric, an aromatic spice from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. Turmeric originates in Indian cuisine, where it is a key ingredient in famous curry dishes, often called koenjit or turmeric. This breakthrough was achieved after testing many different formulations for their bioavailability in humans. The most optimal results were obtained with a formulation inspired by Indian cuisine, where turmeric is mixed with oily components in the preparation of curry pastes. Their curcumin product, branded Longvida®, uses Solid Lipid Curcumin Particles, in which the curcumin is encapsulated in a fatty particle composed of three long-chain fats also found in food: phosphatidylcholine, stearic acid, and ascorbyl palmitate.
