Approximately five hundred amino acids occur naturally. Twenty of these amino acids serve as building blocks for proteins in the human body; these are referred to as "fundamental amino acids." These fundamental amino acids can be further subdivided into the categories "essential," "semi-essential," and "non-essential."L-carnitine belongs to the so-called semi-essential amino acids, meaning the body can partially produce it itself and partially depends on diet to meet its daily needs. It is found primarily in (red) meat and to a much lesser extent in plant foods. Acetyl-L-carnitine (also called ALCAR) is the acetylated form of carnitine. Carnitine can be synthesized in the liver, kidneys, and brain from the amino acids lysine and methionine, with vitamin C, iron, vitamin B6, and niacin as cofactors. Carnitine can be converted into acetyl-L-carnitine and vice versa as needed.
Supplementation with Acetyl-L-carnitine has the advantage over L-carnitine that it crosses the blood-brain barrier more easily.

Usage of Vitals Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg:
You take 2 to 3 capsules per day, unless otherwise advised by a health professional.Preferably take between meals (at least half an hour before or two hours after a meal) with sufficient water.
Stick to the recommended dosage.
Consult an expert before using supplements in case of pregnancy, lactation, taking medication or illness.
Let op:
Do not use Acetyl-L-Carnitine in case of hypothyroidism, carnitine inhibits the activity of thyroid hormone.
In case of hyperthyroidism, Actyl-L-Carinitine may be used.
Due to its energy-enhancing effect, Acetyl-L-Carnitine should not be taken in the evening.
