The thyroid gland's function is to convert iodine, which is found in many foods, into the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroid cells are the only cells in the body that can absorb iodine. These cells combine iodine with the amino acid tyrosine to produce T3 and T4. These hormones are then distributed throughout the body in the bloodstream, where they are responsible for metabolism and many other vital functions, such as blood volume pumped by the heart, heart rate, and respiratory rate. Every cell in the body relies on thyroid hormones to regulate metabolism. A normal thyroid gland produces approximately 80% T4 and 20% T3, but T3 is four times more potent than T4. T3 is the "metabolically active" thyroid hormone.SanoPharm L-Tyrosine Plus Wholefood is based on wholefood minerals from hydroponically grown cabbage (a member of the broccoli family). It contains zinc, copper, potassium, calcium, and magnesium and promotes better nutrient absorption.
L-Tyrosine Plus also contains the active nutrients kelp and L-tyrosine. Both are provided in a form readily usable by the body. Kelp is known to be crucial for thyroid metabolism.
