Camu camu powder is made from the camu camu fruit of the Myrciaria dubia shrub. Organic camu camu grows in the swamps of the tropical rainforest in the western Amazon (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and parts of Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela). The fruit is the size of a lemon and light orange in color. It is a tropical fruit with a diameter of between 2 and 4 centimeters. The skin is smooth and the color ranges from pink to dark purple. The flesh is yellow, fleshy, and sour.Camu camu is a source of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene plays an important role as provitamin A and may play a role as an antioxidant*, in the immune system*, and in cell communication*. Beta-carotene protects the skin from UV damage*.
