Many parts of this tree are used in Ayurvedic medicine. The amla berry is a smooth, light greenish-yellow fruit with vertical grooves. It has a tart flavor and a fibrous flesh. The tree on which these berries grow is native to central and southern India, Pakistan, and southern China.
