Elemental Chromium is based on concentrated mineral drops (CMD), a special seawater concentrate from the Great Salt Lake (Utah, USA) containing the full spectrum of minerals and trace elements (stripped of almost all sodium, and in this case supplemented with extra chromium in the form of chromium chloride). This product is manufactured using a traditional and natural concentration process using the sun.The minerals and trace elements in Elemental Chromium occur in dissolved and ionic forms, as electrolytes. This means they are not combined with other elements but rather as individual electrically charged particles. Magnesium chloride (MgCl2), for example, dissolves in water and breaks down into the ions Mg2+ (positively charged magnesium) and Cl- (negatively charged chloride). This is how minerals also occur in our bodies, dissolved in intra- and extracellular fluids such as blood plasma. Minerals in ionic form are therefore easily absorbed.
Chromium helps maintain normal blood sugar levels (blood glucose levels) and is important for carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism by supporting insulin function. Insulin is produced in the pancreas and released into circulation when blood glucose levels threaten to become too high, such as after eating carbohydrates. It opens insulin-sensitive cells (muscle, liver, and fat cells) to glucose by binding to insulin receptors. Insulin-sensitive tissues store excess glucose for later use in the form of glycogen and (especially) fats. Ideally, blood glucose levels fluctuate little and insulin secretion is no higher than strictly necessary. A diet rich in simple sugars increases chromium excretion.
