MK-7, the superior form of Vitamin K2This product contains 90 mcg of Vitamin K2 in the form of Menaquinone-7 (MK-7). Vitamin K2, also known as Menaquinone (abbreviated MK), comes in various forms, the most common of which are MK-4, MK-7, MK-8, and MK-9. The number after "MK" refers to the length of the side chain in the molecule. According to current scientific research, Menaquinone-7 (MK-7) is the most effective form of Vitamin K2. MK-7 is highly absorbed and remains active in the body for a very long time, thanks to its long half-life. Therefore, relatively low doses of MK-7 are sufficient for optimal efficacy.
How Vitamin K Works
The most well-known function of vitamin K in the body is its contribution to normal blood clotting. Vitamin K activates certain vitamin K-dependent blood clotting factors that ensure optimal blood clotting—meaning it is neither too strong nor too weak. It also contributes to the absorption of calcium into the bones. Vitamin K is a coenzyme required for the carboxylation (activation) of certain Gla proteins, converting glutamic acid (Glu) into ?-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla).
