Beta-carotene is a carotenoid. These substances are divided into two main groups: carotenes and xanthophylls. Carotenes consist of hydrogen and carbon, while xanthophylls also contain oxygen atoms. Beta-carotene belongs to a group of yellow and red vegetable pigments. It is this substance that gives carrots their orange color. Because beta-carotene is fat-soluble, the substance is best absorbed together with fat. This process takes place in the upper part of the small intestine. Beta-carotene is also a provitamin and can be converted into vitamin A if the body needs it. The substance is also produced synthetically and used as a food pigment.Beta-carotene and Vitamin A
Beta-carotene is a good source of plant-based vitamin A. In some parts of the world, it's even the only source of this vitamin. Converted into vitamin A, beta-carotene contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and properly functioning mucous membranes. It also plays a role in maintaining normal vision. Finally, vitamin A is involved in the process of cell specialization in the body and supports a well-functioning immune system.
With a high intake of beta-carotene (30 mg or more) from food or supplements, the skin may develop a harmless, light brown discoloration that some people find attractive. This discoloration results from the accumulation of beta-carotene in the subcutaneous skin tissue (hypodermis). The discoloration disappears as the amount of beta-carotene decreases.

Usage of Pharma Nord Bio-Caroteen:
Take 1 capsule per day, unless otherwise advised by your health professional.Preferably take whole during/after a meal.
Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
Warning:
At a dosage of 3 capsules per day or higher, skin tanning may occur.
Long-term use of high doses (5+ capsules per day) by heavy smokers is not recommended.
