This mycelium is fermented under controlled organic conditions, on organic bean cake powder as a growth medium.Cordyceps sinensis is a parasitic mushroom that occurs naturally in the high-altitude regions of the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas, at elevations of 3,000 to 5,000 meters. In the wild, Cordyceps grows on caterpillars, where the mycelium parasitizes the caterpillar and eventually forms a flesh. This wild Cordyceps is extremely rare and expensive, which has stimulated the development of controlled fermentation techniques to produce the mushroom on a larger scale. Today, Cordyceps is primarily available as mycelium powder or extract.
