Product information for Clark Thiamine HCl 500 mg (Vitamine B1):

Application of Clark Thiamine HCl 500 mg (Vitamine B1):

Vitamin B1 was discovered in 1926 as the first water-soluble vitamin. Its chemical structure was mapped in 1934, and it was first synthetically produced in 1936. Vitamin B1 is not stored in large quantities in the body, so it must be taken daily from the diet. The highest concentrations of vitamin B1 are found in the muscles, heart, liver, kidneys, and brain. The vitamin plays a fundamental role in energy metabolism.

The body uses Vitamin B1 to convert amino acids, fats, and carbohydrates into energy. Research suggests that Thiamine is also used to maintain the nervous system. The vitamin contributes to the synthesis of acetylcholine, a crucial neurotransmitter, facilitating impulse transmission from nerve cells to muscle fibers.

A deficiency in vitamin B1 manifests in various symptoms. These deficiency symptoms are most prominent in alcoholics (whose diet primarily consists of one type of carbohydrates) and in infants whose mothers absorb little vitamin B1 through their diet. Another cause of Thiamine deficiency is improper food preparation. Thiamine is lost when the water in which vegetables are cooked is discarded, when baking soda is used in vegetable preparation, and when sulfur dioxide is used in drying fruit.

A deficiency in vitamin B1 shows unmistakable symptoms, primarily affecting the nervous system, muscular system, digestion, and circulation. More than half of all geriatric patients have been observed to have low B1 levels in their blood plasma. Researchers have noted that cognitive dysfunction often occurs long before the B1 deficiency is discovered.

A classic symptom of thiamine deficiency is beriberi, a disease characterized by edema and loss of muscle tissue, peripheral neuropathy, extreme weight loss, tachycardia and congestive heart failure, unusual ECG measurements, and paralysis. Other symptoms include confusion, concentration and memory loss, irritability, personality changes, depression, muscle fatigue, and heart enlargement.

The recommended daily amount depends on the number of calories consumed from carbohydrates, as the vitamin is necessary to convert those calories into energy. Two other factors influencing B1 needs are body weight and growth rate. Women need more B1 during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and periods of increased stress.

Since Thiamine is rapidly excreted by the kidneys, it is considered non-toxic. Current research focuses on the relationship between Thiamine and perception, mood, and athletic performance. Athletes receiving 100 milligrams of Thiamine daily were less fatigued after strenuous workouts after just 3 days. In a double-blind study, 80 elderly individuals received 10 mg of Thiamine per day. A comparison with the control group showed that those taking B1 had increased appetite and derived more energy from their food. Along with an increase in body weight, there was also a stronger sense of well-being and less fatigue. Activity levels increased, daytime sleep decreased, while nighttime sleep improved.

Thiamine is an essential part of the vitamin B complex. With adequate intake, one remains alert and active. A deficiency brings numerous complaints that undermine health. Vitamin B1 500 mg is encapsulated in Vcaps: a 100% safe plant-based alternative to gelatin capsules.
